Swiss Restaurants

For a proper sit-down meal, you can choose a restaurant (German: Restaurant, French: restaurant, Italian: ristorante). In the French-speaking cantons of Switzerland (also known as the Romandie region), you can also find many bistros and brasseries that serve warm plates, while in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino you can look for an osteria, a trattoria, a locanda or a grotto.

Lunch serving hours usually start at 12:00 until 13:30 or 14:00, while dinner is usually served from 18:30 until 21:30, but there are restaurants that serve until later (usually until 22:30). Fewer restaurants serve warm plates all day long (usually from 11:00 until 23:00).

If you are in a hurry or fancy something small on the go while sightseeing, then you should check the local open markets, where you can usually find kiosks serving several types of sausages, raclette and other delicacies.
