Bern

In the heart of Switzerland

Bern and its surrounding region: Emmental, Biel-Bienne and Solothurn are part of what the Swiss call in German Mittelland and can be translated in English as the Midlands of Switzerland, simply because this region lies in the middle of the country. The lower part of Bern, called the Oberland, features very famous places like Gstaad, Interlaken and the Jungfrau region with its wonderful Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest railway station, located in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

This region of Switzerland is also known for its breathtaking lakes such as the Lake Thun and the Lake Brienz, which has the reputation of being the cleanest lake. From Spring to Autumn the lakes are busy with steamers and if you are already nearby then take a look at the impressive medieval castles; the Oberhofen Castle is probably the best one.

Interlaken is famous for its optimal location for practising adventure sports. Nearly any kind of sports you can think of can be experienced there.

If you enjoyed the jet-set atmosphere of Cannes in France then you should not miss the resort of Gstaad located at 1,100 meters in the West Bernese Oberland. It is renowned for guesting stars like Paris Hilton, Sean Connery or Roger Moore, to name a few. The pedestrian promenades are full of luxurious boutiques from Rolex, Cartier, Gucci, Hèrmes or Louis Vuitton making it a must for posh after-ski shopping.
